STELLA®
SATCOM Technology of Elaborated Luneburg Lens Antenna
We invented a state-of-the-art antenna system STELLA® , a satellite communication antenna product in Low Earth Orbit (LEO-Satcom) with a device as small as a golf ball size for the Q-band frequency (33 – 50GHz). Our X-band antenna device, 8 – 12GHz, with operation extension going beyond the Ku-band (up to 20GHz) is less than a basket ball size. The patent pending STELLA® antenna device is being developed for the X, Ku, Ka, Q, V and W bands. Our antenna system is easily integrable to existing Satcom technologies such as ground terminals and other communication systems. The small footprint of the antenna device supports integration to equipment systems with limited payload such as Cubesats and mobile gateways.
US Air Tech dba USAT products line will include SATCOM ground station, satellite modules and in-orbit crosslink devices for satellite modules operating in optical frequencies (laser light radiation). Laser communications (optical frequencies), downlink and uplink, are part of our R&D (Research and Development) endeavors.
Our antenna technology is unique
The unique features of the patent pending STELLA® antenna system include an extremely wide scanning angle capability and a blanket coverage of the sky or the Earth with no dead zone in the electromagnetics wave illumination pattern. STELLA® has 360 degree in azimuth and 180 degree in elevation scanning capability, a simultaneous connection and tracking of several LEO (Low Earth Orbit) satellites with zero dead zone and zero downtime during tracking, a customizable downlink radiation light beam pattern shape to cover specific geographical Earth area of interest, an advanced control of the radiated electromagnetic beam characteristics (polarization, beamwidth, beam pattern,…) and a resourcefully available transmission power as needed. STELLA’s® reduced footprint is a game changer for the miniaturization of Satcom gateways, reduction of square-footage requirement for teleport ground infrastructure and minimization of teleport operational power. STELLA® antenna system is ruggedized for austere operational environment. The antenna system has no moving parts (such as parabolic reflector antennas) and has no complex electronics as found in phased-array antenna system. These later features enable STELLA® a higher MTBF (Mean Time Between Failure) - 50% more than a phased-array antenna system - and support a very low-cost maintenance rate in comparison to existing Satcom antenna technologies of parabolic reflectors, flat panels and phased-array.
STELLA contribution to Satcom technology
USAT’s contribution to the advancement of SATCOM® technology will be undeniable and impactful. STELLA’s® 3D printed lens antenna is a low-cost production device. It will modestly promote the proliferation of Satcom internet and 5G mobile cellular phone. The direct addressable market of STELLA® are the Low Earth Orbit communication applications of SATCOM including IoT (Internet-of-Things). Voice and data applications (including BigData) are directly served. Services will be enhanced with the following important societal areas: Tele-Health including the emerging Remote Surgery (medical surgery performed on patients half the Globe distance away), Remote Education, Tele-Work, Tele-Conferencing. Underserved remote areas (areas with difficult communication cables access) and disadvantaged communities will benefit from the proliferation of the LEO SATCOM enabled by the low-cost production of STELLA® .
This modest contribution was made possible by the Government funding that USAT was honored to receive. We are grateful to the Government endorsement to our effort, the National Science Foundation (NSF) award and support provided to USAT and the vibrant support from our local community.
It is our commitment to pursue our dedication to the company core motto of:
"SATCOM GLOBAL CONNECTIVITY – We bring people together ".
